Kaslo and Nelson lead Kootenays in increased residential property assessment values

Sparwood and Canal Flats saw the sharpest decline in residential assessed values.

Kaslo, Nelson, Slocan, Nakusp and Revelstoke round out the Top 5 highest assessment value increase for residential houses in the Kootenay/Columbia region in 2016, according to new statistics released by BC Assessment.  Sparwood and Canal Flats saw the sharpest decline in residential assessed values, whereas Creston, Golden, Kaslo, Invermere and Radium Hot Springs saw the biggest jump in assessment values for business or commercial buildings.

This chart shows the percent change to total assessed values related to the market movement in Residential and Business & Other Classes within urban areas throughout the Kootenay/Columbia region.

Specific property types within each class may have changed differently for this period, and those changes are not detailed below. For example, Residential Class includes single- and multi-family dwellings, residential strata properties, rental apartment buildings, and vacant land. Business and Other Class includes retail properties, office buildings, and warehouses.
