North American Visiting Journalist Program

Panorama Mountain Village hosted a successful media event with 14 journalists visiting from a variety of media outlets throughout Canada. Kootenay Rockies Tourism was able to assist through the Visiting Journalist Program by providing 4 flights and Rachelle Colthorp from our media relations department had the pleasure of attending the event. Panorama has received great coverage since the event!

North American Press Trips

Kootenay Rockies Tourism attends a variety of media events and marketplaces throughout the year which have given Rachelle Colthorp, our Regional Media Relations Specialist, an occasion to connect with key media. In January, we had 3 significant press trips as a result:

  • Mark Sissons visited Fernie and Island Lake Lodge on assignment for Men’s Journal and his article 'Cat Skiing British Columbia’s Lizard Range' was recently published on MensJournal.com.
  • Suzanne Morphet visited the region to experience the new 'Lake to Peaks Alpine Escape' package being offered by Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts and Purcell Mountain Lodge. Her article was recently published in The Province.
  • Neal McLennan (freelancer) and Kari Medig (local photographer) recently visited Red Mountain to do a feature for next year’s ski package for enRoute Magazine.

International Press Trips

In partnership with our Destination BC overseas offices, we’ve also had the opportunity to host 3 key journalists from the UK:

  • Ben Clatworthy, InTheSnow Magazine (most widely distributed ski magazine in the UK)
  • Colin Nicholson, The Metro (3rd biggest newspaper in the UK)
  • Catherine Weakley , The Telegraph (leading broadsheet newspaper in the UK)

In March, Robert Stewart from the UK on assignment for Snow Magazine and Martin Haeussermann, a freelancer from Germany on assignment for AUTOStrassenverkehr, will both be in the region visiting and skiing with a number of our 'Powder Providers' along the Powder Highway.
