Invermere gathers input on new Community Hall Facility

Proposed Invermere Facility

The District of Invermere is wrapping up a series of open houses for their proposed new Community Centre—tentatively called the Lake Windermere Memorial Community Hall or the Invermere Community Hall.

Budgeted at almost $6 million, the Council is seeking input from the public on the proposed new facility. The open houses were billed as “an afternoon of exploration, understanding and input.” The invitation also stated, “Council is seeking your input into what you see the new facility should look like and be used for. We are encouraging all residents to attend and understand the reasons why this is needed and what the impacts will be.”

The Invermere Council is looking at borrowing $5.6 million to finance the project, which would be repaid over 30 years.

Original concepts included a community hall, multi-purpose rooms, library and municipal offices. Other ideas suggested a swimming pool/aquatic center. These ideas boosted the price tag to $10 million to $19 million.

It would appear a smaller, more compact version of the Community Hall is in the works with a price tag of around $6 million. Though from the invitation it would appear that the process is still in the early stages and is very open-ended at this point.
