Over the past 50 years, Selkirk College has touched the lives of thousands of people across the West Kootenay-Boundary and beyond. As the college celebrates its golden anniversary in 2016-2017, now is the time to tell the story about how post-secondary has contributed to your life.

We want you to tell us your stories, recollections and reflections about Selkirk College. The stories can be about inspiring instructors, student life highlights, memorable classmates or pivotal moments. Tell us a tale about how what you learned at Selkirk College helped you after graduation or how the education you received enabled you to find success. The stories can be serious, silly, sad or sentimental. We want to hear it all.

With five decades of learning at all our campuses, there’s plenty out there and we want stories from all the different eras. What was campus life like in the 1960s? How did Selkirk College meet the demands of a growing BC economy in the 1970s? Who were the wildest characters of the 1980s? Where did we find inspiration in the 1990s? You get the picture.

Submit Your Stories, Photos and More

We want to hear from alumni, retirees, current staff and students, community members, and anybody else touched by Selkirk College in the last 50 years. Some of this material will be used in a commemorative coffee table book being produced that chronicles the past, present and future of Selkirk College. All of it will be incorporated into helping tell the story of the college, whether it’s through sharing on social media or other avenues in the coming months.

We’re also looking for photographs and memorabilia to help illustrate the history of the college. Nothing transports us back in time better than a picture from a time when fashion choices were questionable and the view out our window was somewhat different than it is today. Photos of people, places and events are all important markers of our history.

If you would like to contribute to bringing history alive in Selkirk College’s golden year, take some time to write your story and send it to us. Be as detailed as you like, the more information the better. Dig through those boxes in the basement to find photos, newspaper clippings, posters, pins or anything else that sends you on a walk down memory lane.

Send all stories and photos to Communications Coordinator Bob Hall via email at [email protected]. If you have photos or memorabilia you would like to contribute to the effort, call Bob Hall at 250-505-1324.
