Disney’s latest movie is shooting this fall in Fernie and stars adorable puppies playing the lead role in a family Christmas movie called “Santa Pups.” As the puppies' human co-star, the movie features Cheryl Ladd, one of the original Charlie’s Angels.

Fernie is fast becoming the Hollywood choice for shooting movies that need spectacular mountain backdrops, historic buildings, ready and willing community support and participation. Plus, Fernie boasts convenient access with new flights into the close by Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC), and one-stop contact for all their movie shoot needs.

“We are fortunate to have Bill Bennett as our MLA in the East Kootenay, as Bill is a tireless supporter of our region and has promoted our region as a filming location to the film commissioner and Hollywood location scouts,” said Matt Mosteller. “Bill is always looking for ways to bring jobs and economic benefits to our region and this is just one of many examples. In addition the province of British Columbia’s new tourism minister, Pat Bell, and his team at Tourism BC have done an incredible job of promoting Super, Natural British Columbia.”

Fernie Alpine Resort was the site used for film segments of the recent Hollywood blockbuster Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Both Fernie Alpine Resort and the community of Fernie also played the fictitious ski resort town Kodiak Valley in the Hollywood movie starring John Cusack, Hot Tub Time Machine.
