As you wind your way toward Kootenay Lake, there is a new tourist attraction that is sure to catch your attention. Just outside of Wynndel, heading north to Kootenay Lake, is the new tasting room of Wynnwood Cellars.
Wynnwood Cellars features wines from the Wynnwood vineyards located across the highway above Duck Lake. This sunny plateau has proven to be a great place to cultivate a winery.
Dave Basaraba opened the Wynnwood Cellars tasting room at the end of July, and he says he has been overwhelmed with the response so far.
"We have only been open a month and we have had a steady stream of people stopping by the tasting room to sample our products," he said.
The winery is a partnership between well-known Creston businessman Michael Wigen, owner of Wynndel Box and Lumber, and operator Dave Basaraba. The Wigen family owns the property where the vineyard has been established.
Plans are in place to landscape the property around the tasting room, located right on Highway 3A, which will eventually contain another vineyard and an expanded tasting room facility.
This year's offering, the first wine commercially available, includes four different varieties to sample—two reds and two whites. A tasting of all four is certainly worth the stop and at the same time you can pick up a bottle or two of the brand new Wynnwood Cellars collection.
