Here’s some notes on the ongoing renovation project at the Creston Hotel & Suites, home of Jimmy’s Pub & Grill:
- “Jimmy the Greek” (Jim Karountzos) retired in 2007 and passed on the business to his children
- Children: Chris Karountzos (spouse Cori), Maria Karountzos and Mimika Coleman (spouse Paul) continue to operate the family business
- Renowned Chef Demetre Karountzos is still operating the kitchen, serving excellent western and Greek cuisine
- This local watering hole is also one of the town’s favourite restaurants and special event scenes
- The Karountzos family shares Greek culture with Creston every year on Greek Independence Day by having a lamb barbecue, traditional Greek dancing and mesmerizing belly dancers. This event sells out faster and faster each year.
- The hotel is very socially responsible in providing generous donations to local charities every year
- The hotel is also a green company, using a boiler system to renew old cooking oil from local restaurants to use for energy
- Hotel renovations began in 2008, starting with hotel rooms and kitchenette suites (LCD TVs, duvet bedding, new carpeting, new paint, wireless internet, etc.)
- A beautiful vineyard mural was painted on the east wall by local Kootenay Youth Foundation
- Custom timber awnings made in-house are placed on the exterior of the building to provide dimension
- A grand new enclosed front entrance with custom timber awnings and hand-picked river rock made to match the previous deck. The work was done by 85-year-old local mason Bruno Laub
- Liquor store has expanded to allow more inventory
- A new reception desk is currently being constructed in the lobby to better serve hotel guests
