The Guiding Hands Recreation Society in Crawford Bay is the recipient of a $10,000 donation from BC Hydro after being named a 2014 Community Champion. All funds will support the Society’s Tipi Camp Wilderness Immersion for Self Esteem (WISE) programs.

These week-long sessions provide a unique opportunity for young people to connect with the natural world, engage with their peers, and develop their sense of personal responsibility in the process.

The $10,000 award will directly enhance several aspects of Tipi Camp’s WISE Programs. It will supplement a bursary that allows children from lower income families to attend camp, and improve the camp’s energy efficiency through the purchase of new solar panels to power their fridges and LED lights.
