Cranbrook’s new Sport Chek store set to open

Cranbrook’s newest retailer, Sport Chek, is gearing up to open their doors on Thursday, April 10th. The new store will be managed by 29-year-old Ryan Alvernini, who has moved to the Kootenays from Coquitlam, B.C. He was the assist manager at the Sport Chek there for several years.

Ryan Alvernini has worked for Sport Chek in a number of locations including Penticton, West Vancouver and most recently Coquitlam. The new store will employ 32 people when it opens in April.

Sport Chek is the largest Canadian retailer of sporting clothing, sports equipment, with stores across Canada (excluding Yukon). Its parent company, FGL Sports Ltd., operates stores under the following corporate and franchise banners: Sport Chek, National Sports, Sports Experts, Intersport, Atmosphere (formerly Coast Mountain Sports), Tech Shop, Econosports, Nevada Bob's Golf, and Hockey Experts

In 2011, Canadian Tire bought Forzani for $771 million, and has since embarked on a large scale brand restructuring.
