At the May 12th, 2014 meeting of Cranbrook City Council a development permit was approved for a proposed new Canadian Tire Store in Cranbrook.

The new store is slated to be built near the existing Home Depot and Home Hardware buildings — and will be located on McPhee Road.

Mayor Wayne Stetski called the major construction project, "Really good news for Cranbrook."

The new Canadian Tire Store will have 71,777 square feet of retail floor space with an additional 10,000 square feet in an attached outdoor garden center.

Part of the agreement with the City will see Canadian Tire fund the installation of a new traffic light at the corner of McPhee Road and Theater Road, as anticipated traffic flows will increase substantially, with a new retailer in the vicinity.

This will pretty much double the size of Canadian Tire compared to their current store on Victoria Avenue. The Cranbrook Canadian Tire franchise is owned and operated by Richard Reinders. There is no word on what will happen to the vacated store on Victoria Avenue — once the new store is built.
