Cranbrook daily newspaper unveils new design

by

What was known as the Cranbrook Daily Townsman is now the Townsman. The newspaper which has been published since 1951 in Cranbrook (formerly known as the Cranbrook Herald and Cranbrook Courier) has undergone a major redesign and a general freshening up under the guidance of former Black Press executive and new owner of the paper, Don Kendall.

The paper now sports a cleaner look, easier-to-read type, bigger and more photos, a nice variety of headline fonts and brand new masthead. The transformation hit the street on Wednesday and definitely endeavours to put a stronger focus on local news.

The first five pages of the Townsman are devoted to news pertaining to Cranbrook which are then zoned out and replaced with Kimberley news in the Kimberley Bulletin—the rest of the newspaper is common to both editions.

Though publisher Don Kendall hasn’t strayed too far from his tried-and-true Black Press roots with this overhaul, all-in-all I give the new look Townsman a thumbs up “B” rating.
