COTR graduate ready to travel global, Think Local
College of the Rockies Adventure Tourism Business Operations graduate, Greg Snell, is a big believer in adventure.
Snell, an avid traveller and visual storyteller, has worked as an adventure guide in Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Patagonia. As the winner of Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World – Wildlife Caretaker’ position, he spent 2014 exploring Australia, documenting his experiences and starting his own destination marketing business.
Having finished his time in Australia, Snell is not about to let the adventures end. He just concluded a successful Kickstarter campaign to help fund his next innovative endeavour – an online documentary travel series.
The series, which will be called Travel Global Think Local, is described as “a documentary travel series which tells powerful stories of extraordinary people in incredible places”. The focus of the series will be community projects that encourage empowerment, sustainability and the actions of people who are making the world a better place.
“I believe that we can create a stronger future by engaging local communities to empower themselves for positive change,” says Snell. “Travel Global Think Local embodies this belief.”
The first episode of the web series will take place in Australia. Snell will feature The Bama Way, a small group of business owners who have come together to meet the challenges faced by the Bama – a community of Australian Aboriginals coping with a lack of meaningful local employment and threats to the sustainability of their traditions and culture.
Future episodes are planned for India, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Ghana, Burma, Jordan, South Korea, and Brazil and will focus on such issues as shelter, education, healthcare and cultural survival.
