Students, faculty, staff and other visitors can now access the College of the Rockies’ website through their smart phone or other mobile device. COTR launched a new mobile version of their site Wednesday, May 11, to make it easier for people on the go to access key College information and resources.

This makes the COTR one of only a handful of BC post-secondary institutions with a mobile website.

“We’ve seen a remarkable increase in the number of visits to our website from mobile devices over the past six months,” said Heather Jackson, web marketing specialist at COTR. “Mobile users need information quickly and in as few characters as possible, with easy-to-navigate links to important information. Our new mobile site accomplishes that.”

The mobile site features easy access to the most popular links on www.cotr.bc.ca including key contact information, student resources, campus maps and hours of operation, events, important dates, links to social media and program information.

Some of the most useful features for students will be the ability to quickly check if a course has been cancelled due to instructor illness, check library resources or chat with a librarian through AskAway’s mobile app. The site contains fewer graphics than the full website, allowing for a quick page load of the site onto mobile devices.

“The site was designed to be compatible with mobile browsers found on devices like Android, BlackBerry and iPhone,” noted Ed Ritchie, COTR’s webmaster and project lead.  “Although our full site displays well on most devices, users will now have an optimal viewing and navigation experience designed specifically for their hand-held wireless devices.”

To try out the college’s new mobile site, point your mobile device to m.cotr.ca.
