CMH Heli-Skiing and Summer Adventures, the leading operator of heli-skiing in the world and pioneer of heli-hiking and mountaineering in western Canada, was honoured with the prestigious Responsible Travel and Tourism Forum Leadership Award at a special ceremony in Toronto last week.

CMH Heli-Skiing and Summer Adventures was recognized for its nearly half century of dedication to sustainable practices, acting as "stewards of the mountains on which it operates and the communities where its staff live, work and play." The accolade acknowledges CMH's leadership in environmental initiatives—including a project to ensure that used skis are kept out of landfills, and commitment to sustainable construction and limiting energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions--as well as its community outreach, including support of local food banks and adventure-based therapy programs that bring local teenagers back to nature.

The RTTF Leadership Award, presented by Baxter Travel Media and sponsored by Air Canada, is bestowed annually on a Canadian travel and tourism organization (including tour operators, hotels, resorts and tourism boards) that has "demonstrated commitment to socially, economically, and environmentally responsible practices."

"We're especially pleased to receive the Responsible Travel & Tourism Forum Leadership Award as it is recognition for the hard work of our entire CMH staff to make a difference in the world, while providing amazing experiences to our guests," says Dave Butler, CMH Director of Sustainability. "And it's great encouragement to continue our on-going journey toward sustainability."
