Certified Coating Specialists, Inc. has been awarded a contract by Peter Kiewit Infrastructure to prepare and coat all interior welds in the new Mayo Penstock that is currently under construction in Mayo, Yukon. In preparation for the Mayo B project, all of Certified's painters have been trained and certified in confined space entry. It will be the third penstock lining completion that Certified will have done for PK.

The Mayo B project is an expansion of an existing Mayo hydro plant. The demand for renewable energy that is both clean and reliable has increased over the years. The Mayo hydro plant has become an important solution for Yukon Energy, the Yukon's largest provider of renewable energy. The expansion will almost triple the amount of power generated from the Mayo River. While British Columbia and Alberta are connected to transmission grids, the Yukon is not. This makes the Mayo B project a necessary advancement to continue providing reliable electricity to the Yukon in a self-sufficient manner.

Certified Coating Specialists is the leading contractor in British Columbia that provides painting, coating and lining services. Originally called Kootenay Powder Coating, Ltd., Certified was founded in 1994 by Clifford and Joy Harper. The company started out small, with only three full-time employees, and flourished as they expanded to include new technologies in coating application techniques. Now, Certified Coating Specialists is an industry leader that has taken on many major marine, industrial, bridge and power projects across western Canada.

Certified is an SSPC-QP1 and 2 certified coatings contractor. The company has earned a number of accolades, including 2 George Campbell awards and a spot on Profit 100's list of Canada's fastest growing companies in 2009.
