BC Alpine’s “Mountain Resort of the Year”
This award is given annually to a resort in British Columbia that has made outstanding efforts to support alpine ski racing.
The Legacy Training Centre at RED Mountain Resort was recently recognised as BC Alpine’s ‘Resort of the Year’. This award is given annually to a resort in British Columbia that has gone above and beyond to support, promote and enhance the sport of alpine ski racing in the province.
At the award presentation during the association's AGM last week, BC Alpine's CEO Bruce Goldsmid was quoted saying, "RED Mountain has historically been a ski racing community which is second to none. The resorts commitment to ski racing in this province is evidenced by their investment in a snowmaking system specifically to enhance racing and race training. With the addition of snowmaking to the top of Red's race centre and the creation of the Legacy Training Centre at RED, BC Alpine will leverage training and racing in Rossland as much as we can".
Christine Andison, President of Red Mountain Racers, was on hand to graciously accept the award. Christine's remarks included “We couldn't be happier with this award and BC Alpine's recognition of our efforts in building The Legacy Training Centre at RED. It has been a long time vision of Red Mountain Racers and the resort. We are now looking forward to the continued growth and enhancement of our facility. Ski racing and training at RED will now positively impact even more young athletes and we are very proud to be able to facilitate this”.
Matt Henry, Director of The Legacy Training Centre also commented on the award. “Leading this project here at RED has been very exciting and this award from BC Alpine is great recognition of the hard work our team has done to date. We will continue this path of excellence for years to come in building an important and vital facility for alpine athletes in Canada.”
The Legacy Training Centre at RED opens November 14th, 2015 for pre-season training and will be hosting teams from BC, Quebec and the USA. In-season race highlights include the Kootenay Zone BC Games Qualifier, BC Fidelity Cup FIS Series and The TECK U14 BC Provincial Championships.
