Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) will provide $17 million in new funding in the 2011/12 fiscal year to support a broad range of social, economic and environmental initiatives throughout the Columbia Basin. This is the largest allocation in CBT’s history and a 13 per cent increase over last year’s funding.

“CBT is pleased it can help positively impact Basin communities in this way,” said Garry Merkel, CBT chair, board of directors. “An increase in budget means an increase in CBT’s ability to support community-based projects and regional initiatives, helping ensure a lasting legacy in the Basin.”

Budget allocations include:

“CBT’s Investment Program—which prudently invests in power projects, local businesses and market securities to generate a predictable, sustainable and appreciating income stream—has allowed CBT to be able to secure this record budget,” said Neil Muth, CBT President and CEO. “This funding will allow us to expand our activities in supporting efforts that foster quality of life and address critical issues in the Basin.”

CBT delivers economic, social and environmental benefits to the residents of the Columbia Basin. To learn more about CBT programs and initiatives, visit www.cbt.org or call 1-800-505-8998.
