“A Daily” no more in Cranbrook or Kimberley
The Cranbrook Townsman has been in publication since 1946.
Black Press, owners of the Cranbrook Townsman, Kimberley Bulletin and the Kootenay Advertiser, has announced a change in publishing frequency. The 5-days a week papers go to three times a week and the twice-weekly Kootenay Advertiser goes to once a week.
"Effective the week of April 18th, the Cranbrook Townsman and Kimberley Bulletin will be publishing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to subscribers only," said Karen Johnston in a message to subscribers, the publisher of both newspapers. "You will continue to receive the Kootenay Advertiser free on Thursdays."
She added, "We appreciate and value your continued support and look forward to delivering the local news, advertising and flyers to your door."
The Cranbrook Townsman has been publishing since 1946 and the Kootenay Advertiser since the early 1970's. The Kimberley Bulletin had the distinction for many years of being the smallest circulation daily newspaper in Canada.
The Trail Daily Times changed its publishing schedule to four days a week some time ago. When Black Press took over the Nelson Daily News, it was shutdown and their competing newspaper the Nelson Star continued to publish several times a week.
The newspapers are owned and operated by Black Press, based out of Victoria, B.C.
Black Press also owns and publishes the majority of papers in the region including the Cranbrook Townsman, Kimberley Bulletin, Kootenay News Advertiser, Invermere Echo and Columbia Valley Pioneer (jointly operated), Creston Advance, Fernie Free Press, Golden Star, Revelstoke Review, Nelson Star, Castlegar News, Trail Times, Arrow Lakes News (Nakusp) and the Grand Fork Gazette.
