$20 million shopping complex proposed for Revelstoke
Vancouver developer sees a huge potential to entice shoppers off the busy Trans-Canada highway and into the community as well.
Vancouver developer, Hall Pacific Enterprises, is proposing a new shopping complex for Revelstoke. The 60,000 square foot development would be located on vacant land at the intersection of Highway #1 and Highway #23. It could house 10-12 "highway-oriented" retailers in the grocery, food and drug, financial and professional, and oil and lube categories.
The proponent's spokesman, Michael Spall, says that some 3.8 million travelers pass by the location, fronting the Trans-Canada Highway, on an annual basis. He sees the shopping development as a draw to get people off the busy Trans-Canada and into Revelstoke, thus benefiting not only the new shopping complex but bringing more people into the community as well.
The project is valued at $20 million and would create 200 construction jobs and another 200 long term permanent jobs. There is hope that a public open house in Revelstoke will be held before the project is given the go ahead.
If given the green light the project would begin construction in April 2016 and take about a year to complete.
