Jeff and Caroline Boag moved to Trail from Whistler, B.C., in 2005, and took over the Arlington Bar & Grill shortly thereafter.

“We hired a chef,” said Jeff, “and my wife, Caroline, and I manage the place. We both have good business sense and experience, and we’re hands on, which makes a difference.”

Were you involved in the restaurant business prior to opening the Arlington?

We’ve always dabbled in the food business in a small way—sandwiches and breakfasts and such—and when we took over the Arlington we added the kitchen. We have a great chef and we’re really proud of our staff. They enjoy their jobs and they have fun at work, which creates a great atmosphere for our guests.

Caroline and I work together most of the time. We’re open every day except Christmas, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Which dish do you consider your signature and why? Is it among the most popular at your restaurant?

I love prime rib—it’s certainly popular with me! We’ve made that our house special three nights a week, and otherwise we do standard pub fare with great flavour. Our chef, Kevin Pretty, is a very, very good cook. He makes all of our soups from scratch and they’re just wonderful. We’re very happy with the way this venture is turning out.
