In an ambitious initiative, the Trail Community in Bloom committee has launched an extensive mural project that brings tremendous beauty, not to mention a historical flavour, to the city of Trail.

In the summer of 2010, the River Reconnect mural was completed. This is the largest one created thus far—measuring 210 by  30 feet—and it wraps around the north end of the Trail Memorial Centre.

The mural includes a variety of images telling the story of Trail’s history. One side of the painting pays tribute to local native culture by depicting a First Nation woman greeting the explorer David Thompson.

There is also a historical river map, Rocky Mountain peaks and other symbols of this diverse area. Artists Steven Skolka and Tyler Toews of Canadian Murals created this and other mural designs based on input from local environmentalists.
