The Trail Aquatic & Leisure Centre, built in 1996, is undergoing some much-needed repairs and upgrading in the future. The centre is a very important part of the community.

Robert Baker, deputy director of parks and recreation, said energy-efficient improvements to the facility are planned. The changes include upgrading the existing air conditioning (HVAC) system, so that the dehumidifier functions properly, and overhauling the pool water heating and lighting systems.

“Taxpayers will benefit from lower operating costs,” said Baker. “The environment will benefit from a reduced carbon footprint, and facility users will experience more comfortable climate control.”

The building envelope will be repaired and the fitness centres and change rooms will have their own environmental control.

Patrons will not necessarily notice visual changes, but once the work is complete, they will notice a difference when they walk in the door.
