We spoke to Jodi Beamish, who recently joined the team at Century 21 Realty in Trail, B.C., about her personal housing history.

When you first left home, where did you live?
I was in Kamloops, B.C., and I moved into a studio apartment. I was 18 and had a job at 7-Eleven, and lived in that apartment for about a year. It was scary and liberating at the same time.

What type of home do you live in right now?
Funny you should ask that right at this point. My husband and I just sold our large family home in Montrose after living there for nine years—it sold much sooner than we expected and we have no home of our own to move into as yet. We are renting a basement suite from a friend right now.

Our former home is quite large. I sold my business, which I had run from home, and our son moved away, so we don’t need a big house and an acre of land—especially since we spend a lot of time on the road, on our motorcycles.

Would you say that the house in Montrose was your dream home?
We did a lot of renovations to it over the years, and it was very close to being our dream home—but then the dream changed.

Now we want a small detached house in Trail with a minimal yard, lots of natural light and lots of storage for our toys—a few motorcycles, a quad and a small trailer. We want to be able to pick up and go at a moment’s notice. Eventually we’d like to spend a month or two down south in the winter.
