In the interest of diversifying and developing the community, the City of Trail has made a substantial investment into fibre optics. The goal is to provide high-speed broadband services to local businesses and residents.

“It has proven difficult … to get services in rural areas that provide the same capability and pricing as metropolitan areas,” said Duane Birnie, information systems co-ordinator. “The benefit to the community will come primarily from the economic development opportunities.”

In addition to lowering Internet costs,  the investment in fibre optic technology will bring new people and industries into Trail—those who are dependent on the high bandwidth applications that are now being made possible.
