Sparwood offers the perfect terrain for fishing, camping and hiking. — Steve Short photo

The people in Sparwood are fortunate—they have a world of eye-catching wilderness at their fingertips, and so many places to play and live an active life. When you visit this area you can set off on a hike or a bike ride on one of the numerous Rocky Mountain trails, go fishing or embark on a family camping trip.

Sparwood also has a rich coal mining heritage that you are sure to find intriguing. Contact the chamber of commerce in July and August to find out how you can take a tour of the Elkview Mine, which has significant economic and historical significance to the community. You can also take a Mine Artifacts Self-Guided Walking Tour or visit the Miner’s Memorial that is situated in Centennial Square. The Sparwood Chamber of Commerce can be reached at 250-425-2423 or 877-485-8185.
