With impressive heritage buildings and friendly citizens, Nelson typifies West Kootenay appeal. With many kilometres of backcountry and a wide selection of recreational opportunities, this bustling city is an exciting place to be during the winter season.

Sled yourself silly

The nearby Selkirk Mountains provide a world-class setting for those who love to snowmobile. With elevations that range from 600 to 2,000 metres, the sledding season runs from December all the way through to mid-April.

The Nelson SnoGoers Club maintains more than 100 kilometres of trails in the Six Mile-Crusader, Springer-Lemon Creek and Redfish Creek drainages—and there are wood-heated safety cabins along the way with first aid equipment on hand. Trail maps can be obtained at the Nelson Visitor Centre and Main Jet Motorsports.

Skiing takes the cake

Nelson offers vast backcountry terrain near the city. The surrounding trails are perfect for telemarking and touring, while the Nelson Nordic Ski Club keeps 25 kilometres of trails in prime condition for cross-country skiers.

For epic winter fun, you can’t go wrong by visiting Whitewater Ski Resort. Only 15 minutes away from Nelson’s downtown, this resort offers everything you need for a thrilling winter vacation. Heli-skiing, snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, cat-skiing and snowshoeing are just a few of the choices available at this phenomenal location.

After a day of recreation, be sure to unwind at the beautiful Mountain Waters Spa.
