The Community First Health Co-op was incorporated by a team of Nelson citizens who wished to support local health care. The non-profit, volunteer-run organization offers something of a one-stop shop for a range of both complementary and traditional wellness services.

Among the professionals working at the centre are acupucturists, massage therapists, physicians and pharmacists. There are also educational programs and other resources available at the centre.

“Co-operatives start as a volunteer organization and then grow, until they are contributing to the economy, while meeting community needs,” said past president Doug Stoddart. “I am pleased to say we have reached that point in time where we are contributing to the economy and we are making a difference.”
