A funding partnership of government and community agencies has resulted in a new housing development in Nelson.

Anderson Gardens is a 33-unit complex under construction to provide homes for low- to moderate-income seniors and people with disabilities.

Fred Marin, associate/partner with the project’s developer, Culos Development Group, based in Kelowna, said that the wet weather of the past winter caused the early stages of the construction to go slowly.

Funding comes from the federal government, the provincial government and a number of community partners: Columbia Basin Trust (CBT), the Real Estate Foundation of B.C., and the Kootenay branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

“We have a construction team in place,” said Janice Ivan, executive director of CMHA Kootenays, “that is comprised of numerous parties and provides oversight to the project’s construction.”
