Nelson’s New Grand Hotel celebrated its 10th anniversary in late May with a huge weekend anniversary party.

Originally the Lord Nelson Hotel, the New Grand was purchased by a group of owners in 2001 and extensively renovated over the years to its current form, which now includes a Louie’s Lounge and Steakhouse restaurant, the detached New Grand Liquor Merchants, and the Grounded Organic Coffee House.

“It’s been a 10-year ongoing project,” said Danny Rickaby, one of the owners of the New Grand. “We’re still not done. We’re currently adding a new lobby lounge.

“We had an old property when we started, so it’s been an ongoing improvement. So I think we’re getting older and better.”

Not long after celebrating marking a decade as the New Grand Hotel, management and staff will be celebrating a bigger milestone – the 100th anniversary of the hotel's original construction in 1913.

“We’re going to have a big celebration for that (in 2013),” Rickaby said.
