What are some of the best examples of excellence in architecture in Canada?

Every two years the governor general’s medals in architecture are presented across Canada.

"The recipients of the governor general’s medals in architecture have distinguished themselves as visionary Canadian architects. They have designed spaces where communities are forged, memories are enshrined and identity is created in built form. Few architects are able to realize their philosophies so fully in practice and in such diversity of project type and geography."

His Excellency the Right Honourable
David Johnston, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., Governor General of Canada

The 12 awards honour very simply “excellence in the art of architecture.” These days, that is a difficult thing to assess. The judges had to weigh factors of not only design, but how these buildings are seen in context with what is around them.

And in the Kootenays? What do you think are some "examples of excellence in architecture" that should be recognized in your community?
