More CP Rail jobs for Golden
An expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway repair and maintenance yard will result in employment opportunities in Golden, B.C.
The coal car repair and maintenance shop of the Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. (CP) has been located in Golden, B.C., for more than 30 years. A renovation and expansion to the yard, scheduled for completion this autumn, will increase CP’s repair and maintenance operations. It will streamline what the company calls “the coal loop” and will improve the efficiency of CP’s operations. The expansion will initially create eight full-time jobs in the community.
Salem Woodrow, communications and public affairs spokesperson for CP, said, “By making these renovations, CP can be more responsive to not only our own business requirements, but also those of our customers, now and in the future.”
Woodrow said that CP is proud of its strong history and relationship with the town of Golden. The Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce and the mayor of Golden have expressed appreciation of CP for the continued growth of the Golden repair and maintenance yard.
Golden’s mayor, Christina Benty, said that she was pleased when CP’s community liaison gave the town council a presentation to let them know about the expansion project.
“CP Rail is a major employer in our community,” Benty said. “I am pleased with the way they have kept us advised of developments and how they have been responsive to our input.
“In a small community, seven to 10 good-paying jobs make a difference. Bringing new, high-quality employment to the community benefits our local economy. It means more people moving here, more houses being sold and more people shopping in our stores.”
