Mike Adams is the first vice-president of the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce. He is excited about the coming year and said there is a strategy meeting coming up, at which goals will be discussed with the full board.

The Cranbrook chamber's goals and objectives are centred on promoting a good understanding of private enterprise in the region and a strong business climate. They hope to provide strong business leadership within the region, encouraging understanding and awareness of the opportunities, advantages and assets of the area.

Adams said one of the initiatives that will be discussed is the continuation and expansion of the Black Friday sales event, during which locals are encouraged to shop locally instead of travelling over the border into the States. Prices are slashed for that day only and Adams said last year's event was very successful.

"Other discussions will revolve around ensuring good quality speakers at our monthly luncheons," said Adams. "We will discuss the benefits to members so that the businesses in Cranbrook recognize and appreciate the benefits of being a member of the chamber."

This will be Adams' third year involved with the chamber. He was the past president of JCI Kootenay and previously had a board advisory position with the chamber. Adams is a partner with Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants and enjoys the opportunities presented by the chamber to mix with other businesses, and to have discussions with the City of Cranbrook.

"I think the chamber will have another strong year, and that the economic conditions are turning around so that the business communtiy will benefit from that," said Adams. "Hopefully the chamber can assist in any way we can."
