Based in Cranbrook, Fab Rite Services Ltd. is a CWB-certified steel fabrication company that offers a wide range of services to the industries of mining, oil and gas, forestry and construction.

The company provides everything from complete fabrication and installation packages of structural steel components for industrial and commercial applications to specialized machine manufacturing, sandblasting, painting and crane rentals.

Over the years, the company has completed many large and small projects—from rebuilding shovel buckets for equipment at coal mines in the Elk Valley to the complete supply and installation of a 13-metre by 16-metre high surge tank for the BC Hydro Aberfeldie Dam in Bull River. Fab Rite was the general contractor on Tembec’s finger joint plant in Cranbrook and the company did many upgrades to sawmills in Elko and Canal Flats. The company has also worked on the Diavik Diamond Mines in Yellowknife and it has even shipped equipment to Panama and China. These days, though, the company has shifted its focus to Northern Alberta and the Elk Valley.

Fab Rite employs a diverse staff of approximately 80 highly trained machinists, welders and other tradespeople. The company has a full-service 40,000-square-foot facility in Cranbrook as well as a second 10,000-square-foot facility in Sparwood. To streamline production and ensure all of the company’s products are accurate, Fab Rite has just purchased a new BCS Multi 2500 plasma table and a V613 Voortman drill line. Both of these units employ stateof-the-art CNC technology to cut large pieces of steel with ease.

Mike Kozinuk, the owner of Fab Rite, is excited about the new plasma table and drill line, and he said the new equipment will allow the company to enhance its quality control and ensure that steel fabrication projects are done right and on time.

The company has a wide range of specialized equipment at its disposal, such as milling machines, engine lathes, radial arm drills, a power broach, a shaper, a 100-ton horizontal press, portable line boring units and a brake press. Fab Rite is also a shear temperature-controlled sandblast and paint shop. With its full line of mobile equipment—which includes a 28-ton boom truck, three heavy-duty cranes, excavator, zoom boom and service trucks— Fab Rite can provide field crews and accommodate any onsite fabrication and machining project. The company offers mobile crane rentals as well.
