Boards by George caters to unique requests
Experience, patience and attention to detail is what insures success for this mill
Boards by George, operated by George Brinkman and crew in Meadow Creek, B.C., is a business that has been in operation since 1980. This sawmill produces a variety of specialty wood products, always keeping quality and customer satisfaction top priorities.
The Meadow Creek area used to be called the Golden Mile of sawmills, with more than 15 operators cutting lumber. Times have changed, said Brinkman, who added there are now only two mills in the area. Boards by George has survived by producing a much more specialized end result. They may use the same logs as the larger mills, but the finished product can be much different.
The mill does not focus on producing mass volumes of milled lumber. Instead, it caters to unique requests and applications. Experience, patience and attention to detail help the Boards By George crew to create fine products such as piano boards. They also craft milled timbers for custom homes, along with custom flooring, decking, siding and window and door trim made of fir, cedar, spruce, hemlock and birch. Recently they expanded their wood selection to include FSC certified plantation teak.
Boards by George is unique in technique, bringing back sawing traditions from early days of milling. Rift sawn boards giving a quarter-sawn look on all faces, angle grain, clear grain, swishing and swashing are just some of the ways they set themselves apart from mills that mass-produce their products.
Most of the logs come from Revelstoke or the coast, where the logs are massive. It is not unusual for an entire log deck to be filled with only five or six logs. This is why customers such as the award-winning Purcell Timber Frames has developed a long-standing relationship with Boards by George.
