Report from the Canadian Rockies International Airport

by

Cranbrook Airport Services Ltd., along with the City of Cranbrook, is pleased to announce that second quarter passenger numbers for the Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) have increased over second quarter 2011 passenger numbers. 2012’s second quarter passenger statistics show an increase of 1,156 passengers (5 per cent) over 2011’s second quarter numbers. Year to date, the total passengers arriving and departing from YXC is 25,921. This is an increase of 4 per cent over 2011 passengers at this time last year.

On June 28, YXC participated in WestJet Regional Day. Eighty-nine delegates from airports across the country converged on the WestJet campus in Calgary to present their case for regional service with WestJet. YXC managing director Tristen Chernove and Dave Butler, vice-chair of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia, presented to WestJet executives on behalf of YXC. The airport enlisted the help of community stakeholders to provide messages to the airline outlining why service to the region would be beneficial. WestJet has advised that their new regional airline is targeting a start date of June 2013, first new routes to be disclosed by early 2013.

YXC is also hosting the Summer Performing Artist Showcase at The Pickled Bean Café. Join us to enjoy musical stylings of local musicians and sample some of the excellent food and drink offered by the newest Air Terminal tenant, The Pickled Bean Café!

Performances are each Thursday in July from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and every Friday in August from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
