New general manager at Fort Steele Heritage Town ready for busy season

On duty since last October, new general manager of Fort Steele Heritage Town Jennifer Dunkerson is gearing up for a busy spring and summer season at the popular visitors destination. Jennifer Dunkerson was hired by the Friends of Fort Steele the group which runs Fort Steele Heritage Town on behalf of the provincial government.

She comes from Revelstoke where she held a similar position at the Revelstoke Heritage Train Museum.

Jennifer has an undergraduate degree in history, from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where she continued with graduate work in public history, at the University of Waterloo. She has worked with community museums in southern Ontario, and has provided professional support for heritage organizations, including the Canadian Industrial Heritage Centre, in Brantford, Ontario. She moved to B.C. in 2009 to become the executive director of the Revelstoke Railway Museum in Revelstoke. Jennifer is married and has two daughters, 11 and 6.

Jennifer Dunkerson is anticipating a great season at Fort Steele for 2013, she said, “Fort Steele will continue to offer its visitors a quality visit while on site with all of our regular features and programs available. New this year is our Pro-D Day and March Break children's programs, and other classes and workshops that highlight a variety of trades. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt event is being held on Sunday, March 31, from 10:00 to 2:00, and many other annual events and activities are being offered throughout the year. The Friends of Fort Steele Society is dedicated to the continuing development and improvement of the site and look forward to working with community partners and establishing commitments that will continue to ensure a strong presence in the region.”
