Michael Smith, owner and operator of Angus McToogle’s Restaurant in Invermere, announced his retirement and the closing of his restaurant at the end of September.

In an announcement in the local Invermere paper he stated, “I am retiring and Angus McToogle’s will be closing at the end of this month…do drop by and say farewell. To our many patrons and friends, I thank you. Finally, thank you to our longtime staff and especially my daughter and right hand, (the boss of me), Megan.”

The popular restaurant and bar was noted for its many evenings of musical entertainment featuring local performers, great food and a welcoming atmosphere. It has operated in Invermere for the last 10 years.

Mike Smith is also the longtime chair of the Kootenay Rockies Tourism association and a past board member of the Tourism BC. We wish Mike the best in his retirement.

Word on the street says the Invermere mayor Gerry Taft, owner of Gerry’s Gelato, has purchased the historic Cleland House property which Angus McToogle’s called home — with another possible restaurant in mind.
