Fernie's independent liquor store expansion should be complete by late spring 2014

Operators of Fernie’s independent liquor store, Mountain Spirits, -- David Calder, Brian Lawless and Allen Tozer have their planned expansion underway. The expanded store will also house a new tenant once complete. The expansion will add an additional 2,000 square feet on the south side of the existing building.

According to a proposal put before Fernie City Council, “The existing drive through lane will remain and be modified to allow a larger turning radius. The building expansion will eliminate several existing parking spots however the proposal provides for new parking spaces. A landscape plan has been provided and includes landscaped areas in the front and back of the building. The west elevation will raise the existing canopy over the front entry by 18” to provide a break between the new and old building, transition to the new roof and breakup the long line of the building. There is also a tower feature constructed of 9 panels with a large centre spandrel panel.”

The expansion also calls for, “a small open patio space against the building on the west elevation and a second small open patio across the drive thru lane near the signage.”

Construction should be completed later in the spring of 2014.
