Candice Becker wants her clients to gain clarity of vision and reduced air conditioning costs

It’s environmentally friendly, reduces air conditioning and heating costs, and reduces temperatures substantially, said new entrepreneur Candice Becker, sole proprietor of Dark Side Window Tinting in Grand Forks.

“Anything with a window becomes an instant greenhouse as the sun rises and until it sets,” she said. “Window tinting changes all that.”

By applying a thin layer of reflective material on a window, the people on the “dark side” actually see more clearly, work comfortably and save money on air conditioning, Becker said. It doesn’t matter what glass-paned interior you’re talking about—retail space, homes or automobiles. It all works on the principle that sunlight reflected back into space can’t impart its energy to those interiors.

“I’m one of those people who left here several years ago and came back because my family’s here,” said Becker, who learned how to do window tinting while living in Vernon, B.C. “I have a skill to impart and a product to make available.”

Becker’s analysis was simple enough. Prior to her opening Dark Side, anyone wanting windows tinted had to drive hundreds of miles to get the job done—and you simply can’t drive your house or office to have window tinting applied.

For those who are considering applying window tinting themselves, Becker said the application process is “not as simple as it looks.”  She said that among couples who have attempted window tinting on their own, “a high percentage of marriages have evaporated.” Her advice?
