Situated on Herridge Lane in Nelson, brand new floral shop Bella Flora opened its doors on May 1 to accommodate a crowd of eager Mother's Day shoppers. Owners Charles Arnold and Kyla Jakovickas—a husband and wife team—planned the opening date strategically, to start off on the right foot.

“Being the busiest occasion in the floral industry we thought this would be a great way to start with a bang, and it was,” said Jakovickas.

The shop specializes in local and coastal-grown fresh-cut flowers, unusual plants and local artwork. You can also go there to shop for gift items, such as jewelry, greeting cards, pottery, perfume and chocolates.

Jakovickas is from Nelson originally, although she has travelled the world working as a florist and learning the tricks of the trade. Her new customers are thrilled to see the creative ideas she has brought home with her.

“My true passion is to create stunning individual flower arrangements for whatever occasions arise,” said Jakovickas. “Having worked as a florist around the world has given me great inspiration and opening Bella Flora has been a long-time dream. Nelson—being my hometown, and such an artistic and cosmopolitan little city—seemed ready for this kind of a shop, and the response has been amazing.”

You can reach Bella Flora at 250-352-5592 or visit the shop's Facebook page.
