Avalanche safety in Canada rebranded

Canada’s national public avalanche safety organization, based in Revelstoke, B.C., has announced a new name and logo

On October 2, 2014, Canada’s national public avalanche safety organization announced a new name and logo (see lead photo). Formally known as the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC), the organization has rebranded for the upcoming season as Avalanche Canada. The website and web address for the organization, www.avalanche.ca, will remain the same. The move is expected to help Avalanche Canada avoid confusion with the Canadian Avalanche Association and the Canadian Avalanche Foundation, both of which also use the same web entry point.

“Avalanche Canada will continue to provide the same award-winning and internationally recognized programs that have been developed over the past decade,” said executive director Gilles Valade. “As we look forward to our next 10 years, we wanted to create a brand identity that is separate from the Canadian Avalanche Association, the organization that serves and supports professional avalanche workers in Canada.”

Based in Revelstoke, B.C., Avalanche Canada will continue to be the go-to source for avalanche safety information. Its programs are designed for all types of recreational winter backcountry users. The rebranding launch was attended by representatives from the Alberta and B.C. governments, both of which announced continued commitments to public avalanche safety. Avalanche Canada works with both public and private partners to fund its programs.

After a decade of helping backcountry adventurers stay safe throughout the winter season, Avalanche Canada looks forward to continuing its strong tradition.
