Two new retailers—one already open and the other coming soon—will give residents and visitors alike in Cranbrook two more reasons to enjoy the shopping experience at Tamarack Centre.

The brand new Bulk Barn opened at the end of August, while the much anticipated Target retail outlet is scheduled for a spring 2013 opening.

"Tamarack Centre is thrilled to be a part of bringing these two stores to Cranbrook," said centre manager Linda Birch. "We are pleased to announce that Bulk Barn opened on August 30th and is already  proving to be a destination for many shoppers. Target is a very well-known destination store originally located in the United States and we know that, from its reputation, it will also be a shopping destination for people in the Kootenays and beyond."

Bulk Barn fits nicely between the Winners and Staples outlets.

"Not many people would have noticed that there was a large space between Winners and Staples," Birch said, "but Bulk Barn fits perfectly in this 6,000-square-foot area. Bulk Barn's sign and storefront are clearly visible from the highway in front of Tamarack Centre."

As for the Target store, it will be located where the current Zellers store sits.

"In 2011, Target acquired 189 Zellers sites across Canada," said Birch, "and Tamarack Centre is fortunate to be one of the 18 in British Columbia."

According to the company's website, Bulk Barn is Canada's largest bulk food retailer. Established in 1982, Bulk Barn has expanded to 190 stores across the country. It offers a wide range of premium quality bulk food products along with complementary packaged items.

Bulk Barn carries more than 4,000 products—literally from soup to nuts. Among the items in stock are baking and candy-making ingredients, spices from the everyday to the exotic, vitamins and supplements, health and natural food products, pet food and party supplies.

The Bulk Barn concept is built around a bright, clean, controlled environment with friendly and courteous staff, says the Bulk Barn website.

Target's website notes that 2012 marks that company's 50th anniversary.

"We can't wait to open our doors in Canada and deliver on our Expect More. Pay Less. brand promise," said Target Canada president Tony Fisher in a recent press release.

"Target is so much more than just a place to shop," said Fisher. "We also have a long history as a great place to work and of being a strong partner in the cities and towns where we do business."

Both Bulk Barn and Target are notable for their philanthropic efforts. Target's U.S. outlets have developed partnerships with education and reading-focused organizations, while Bulk Barn has supported fundraising programs for Alzheimer Society branches across Canada.
