With a new building completed, the Winnipeg Liquor Store opened in Grand Forks late in 2013. The name is a nod to the historical Winnipeg Hotel, which had occupied the site previously but needed to be demolished.

“Because (the owners) had to tear down the building . . . they decided to keep the name just to keep the history going,” said the new store manager, Lori-Ann Dagg. We’re also trying to keep the old theme, so we’re going to put some old pictures on the front windows.”

The central location has worked well for the new building, which adds to Grand Forks downtown. Signage and maintenance are all managed by local Boundary region companies. Another local business, Avalon Gardens, will be running a flower booth outside the business over the summer season.

“I think it’s going to benefit the community,” said Dagg. “I myself am looking forward to learning more about wines. We have a large selection of B.C. wines, so I think that’s where we differ from most liquor stores. We carry so many Okanagan wines, and then some from the Kootenays.”

The Winnipeg Liquor store also carries a large variety of craft beers and staff is always on hand to help you select the perfect vintage or brew. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
